The Fitness Assessment
The fitness assessment will allow the personal trainer to evaluate your current fitness level and determine any areas that need to be a focus immediately.
Some of the things you can expect during the assessment include:
- Basic Mobility Patters: This portion of the assessment allows the trainer to see you perform basic movements. This helps assess your strength, stability, and posture.
- Shoulder Mobility Testing: This will evaluate your range of motion, flexibility, and any possible restrictions in your shoulders.
- Squat Mobility Testing: This evaluates mobility in your hips, knees, and ankles. It will also help demonstrate your overall form and control.
- Baseline Testing: This part of the assessment could include strength exercises or light cardio to determine your current levels of endurance, strength, and overall fitness.
The Consultation is Important
The assessment you will go through serves two major purposes:
- Customizing Your Program: The assessment will allow the trainer to personalize your fitness program to your goals and overall fitness level. Whatever your fitness goals are, the trainer will make a plan customized to your needs.
- Tracking Your Progress: Getting a baseline allows the trainer to ensure you are progressing during the course of your program. The baseline allows the trainer (and you) to measure improvements over time. Seeing progress will give you an added spark of motivation.
Collaboration & Goal Setting
Once the assessment is complete, you and the trainer will discuss your fitness goals in detail. The trainer will listen to your needs, provide feedback and ask questions, and then put together a plan that is both realistic and effective. The trainer will also discuss what your workout program will look like, how you will work together, and other aspects of your program. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions.
